CBC

We have coordinated with the producers of Canada Reads and the CBC analytics department to understand how the program is produced, their internal and external pressures, how they choose their celebrity panelists, how they ensure a diverse reading list, and how they respond to audience engagement.

BookNet

We have partnered with BookNet, a non-profit organization that works with the Canadian publishing industry to understand the state of Canadian publishing and readership. We are drawing on their extensive, existing research into broad trends in Canadian publishing.

Book Clubs

We are meeting with book clubs in different parts of Canada to understand how they engage with Canada Reads and Canadian Literature. What are they interested in reading? What is the tenor of their discussion and conversation? What motivates them to read Canadian books and what are the terms with which they discuss those books?

Turtle Island Reads and Other Mass Reading Events

In addition to Canada Reads, we are considering other Mass Reading Events, including “Turtle Island Reads” and the many “One Book, One city” events taking place across Canada. How do these communities of readers challenge the terms of Canada Reads and Canadian Literature more generally?
